Group is an opportunity to practice relating with
people, explore your experience and feelings, be inspired by acts of
courage, give and receive compassion and acceptance, and learn to receive
attention in front of a group, which can enhance self esteem. The purpose
of group is to provide a safe enough setting to practice addressing some
of the following areas; the need for support; attention, encouragement,
positive interactions, and the need to explore as well as to express
feelings.
Process Groups
focus on building safety and trust and making use of interactions between
members
to identify needs for support and issues interfering with the healthy
utilization of support in the recovery process.
Communication/
Life Skills Groups focus on issues related to effectiveness
in interpersonal relationships, choices, responsibility, accountability,
and the importance of addressing and working through resentments.
Feelings Groups focus
on learning to recognize, feel safe with, manage, share, express, and
seek healthy support for feelings including feelings of shame, fear,
anger, and frustration.
Family Groups
for clients and family members will focus on family systems issues related
to addiction and recovery including issues of enabling and codependency,
repairing trust, supporting the creation of healthy boundaries, and supporting
families in their process of reorganization.
Relapse Prevention
Groups are designed to enhance clients’ knowledge
of the disease of addiction and to empower them in their challenge
of recovery. Issues will include contemporary research on addiction
and treatment, relapse prevention strategies, the relationship
between narcissism and addiction and will provide clients with
opportunities to receive support in dealing with 12 step and sponsor
related issues.
Specialty Groups and
speakers will be utilized periodically to support the treatment process.
These groups will include presentations on internal and external methods
to support healthy boundaries, assertiveness skills, issues of empowerment,
and unhealthy identity issues related to trauma.
